We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies within the workplace. This position involves developing, implementing, and monitoring safety programs and initiatives to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.
Additionally, the Safety Specialist will manage and coordinate the return-to-work process for employees recovering from work-related injuries or illnesses. The focus will be on facilitating seamless and efficient transitions back to work, ensuring adherence to workers' compensation regulations and company policies.
What will you be doing!
Safety Policy Development:
· Assist in developing, reviewing, and updating health and safety policies and procedures to reflect changing regulations and organizational needs.
· Work with management to promote a safety culture across the organization.
Safety Inspections:
· Conduct routine inspections of the workplace, machinery, and equipment to ensure they meet safety standards.
· Create detailed reports and work with relevant departments to address identified issues promptly.
Emergency Preparedness:
· Collaborate with emergency response teams to develop emergency preparedness plans and evacuation procedures.
· Conduct drills and simulations to ensure employees are familiar with emergency protocols.
Safety Data Analysis:
· Collect and analyze safety-related data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and opportunities for enhancing workplace safety.
· Use data-driven insights to develop targeted safety initiatives.
Health and Safety Compliance:
· Ensure the company's adherence to all relevant health and safety regulations, standards, and guidelines set by local, state, and federal authorities.
· Develop, implement, and maintain a WHS Safety Management System aligned with current AS/NZS 4801 standards, ensuring ongoing compliance and continuous improvement.
· Continuously monitor and assess the workplace environment to identify potential hazards and compliance gaps.
Risk Assessment:
· Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of work processes, equipment, and facilities to identify potential hazards.
· Collaborate with relevant departments to implement controls and preventive measures to mitigate risks effectively.
Incident Reporting and Investigation:
· Facilitate and oversee the timely reporting of workplace incidents, accidents, and near misses.
· Conduct thorough investigations to determine root causes and contribute to the development of action plans to prevent recurrence.
Safety Training and Education:
· Develop and deliver engaging health and safety training programs to employees and management.
· Ensure that employees are aware of safety protocols, emergency procedures, and best practices for maintaining a safe work environment.
· Implement a world-class induction training plan.
· Create and deliver training material as required.
Return to Work and Workers Compensation:
· Oversee the workers' compensation process, from initial claim reporting to resolution.
· Collaborate with external consultants, employees, supervisors, HR, and medical professionals to gather relevant information for workers' compensation claims.
· Liaise with insurance providers, adjusters, and legal representatives as needed to manage claims effectively.
· Ensure adherence to all state and federal workers' compensation laws and regulations.
· Develop and implement return-to-work programs that support injured or ill employees in their recovery and transition back to work.
· Communicate regularly with injured employees to provide support, guidance, and updates on their return-to-work status.
· Collaborate with medical professionals to understand employees' work restrictions and capabilities during the recovery process.
· Work closely with supervisors and department heads to identify suitable temporary or modified work assignments for employees based on their abilities.
Who are you?
- 2-4 years’ experience working within a similar role for a fast-paced organisation
· Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Human Resources, or a related field.
· Certification in Safety Management, Workers' Compensation, or related areas is preferred.
· Proven experience in safety management and return-to-work coordination.
· Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations and workers' compensation laws.
· Excellent communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
· Proficiency in data analysis and report generation.
